Over the course of several years, condo communities develop an identity and reputation. When it’s good, it’s great but when it is bad, it is hard to overcome no matter how much things have improved with great effort.
There are two examples in our area of such projects that have worked very hard over the past few years to solve past issues and they’ve done a great job.
One step to re-awakening the world to the new reality of these communities is to rebrand them with a new operating name. Mountain Springs Resort is now called North Creek Resort at Blue and, Shaw Square in Collingwood is now Maple View Court.
North Creek Resort at Blue had a reputation for management challenges in years past as well as fading infrastructure, financial malfeasance and a reputation for rowdiness. Today, they have new property management, a reinvigorated and hard-working board and they are slowly upgrading the building exteriors; all improvements that are changing the reputation and cachet of the community.
Maple View Court had a reputation as a low-income community with deferred maintenance issues and lackluster management. Today, the community has benefitted from upgrades such as new roofs, insulation, interlocking brick walkways, new rules and a very hands-on board working for the betterment of the project every day. (Full disclosure – I sit on that board).
Kudos to the boards and property managers who have made such great improvements in these two communities. Both are now great examples of well managed and stable condo communities in our area and the new names signal the new beginnings.
