Lighthouse Point Collingwood – Perspective from a Long-time Resident

Sherry Rioux not only lists and sells a high percentage of units at Lighthouse Point, she has lived there for more than 24 years. Following is her personal perspective – a real insight into the Lighthouse Point lifestyle.
“When my husband and I first ventured north from Toronto to look for a weekend place, Collingwood seemed like the logical destination. We would flee the concrete jungle of the city on a Friday evening after work, and as we would round the corner in Stayner towards Collingwood, you could feel a sense of relaxation overcome your entire being. That meant we were 20 minutes to our little piece of paradise.
Collingwood was a short drive, only about 1.5 hrs from our home, and there were various routes we could take to get here. This was the ideal 4 season resort destination we were looking for. We had considered a cottage, but the realization of the work required to maintain 2 homes quickly brought us to our senses. We knew that condo living would be the right choice for us.
That was back in 1991, and it didn’t take us long to realize that Lighthouse Point offered us a lifestyle we were looking for. It was a waterfront development with tons of amenities and the promise of more to come. Everything we were promised over 24 yrs ago as early residents of the area came true.
Lighthouse is situated on approx. 100 acres of prime waterfront land, including a 10 acre nature preserve and approx. 1 ½ miles of trails along beautiful Georgian Bay. It has been said that 50% of all the sales in Lighthouse come from within. People start with a small 2 bedroom, then move to a 3 bedroom, then on to the waterfront. For us, this was exactly what happened.
The condo lifestyle in amenity rich Lighthouse Point drew us in. In the early days, tennis and swimming pools were the draw. Today, there are 9 tennis courts, 3 outdoor pools, a 9 hole mini-golf, basketball, volleyball, ball hockey, 2 beaches, a children’s playground and a spectacular nature reserve surrounded by lit paths.
The community aspect of the development is growing. There are social events, tennis instruction, aquafit, yoga and many other ways to get to know your neighbours.
From the beautifully landscaped grounds to the amazing facilities, you would be hard pressed to find so many amenities in one development. Although there are approx. 576 condominiums spread throughout the 100 acres, the density is one of the lowest in the areas.
The 230 slip on-site marina is known to be one of the best private marinas on Georgian Bay. Anytime we have thought that we may want to go back to a detached home, we enter the complex past the quaint waterfall, down the tree-lined avenue with manicured gardens to our now full time residence. We open our front door, take in the views of the bay and the mountains, then look at each other and say…not a chance!
